Shut down shortcut windows xp
Great shortcut! Right now the pc is not letting me click on anything except home, sleep and lock. Are there any other ways you can suggest without having to shut down via power button? Thanks Ranchy! I updated the title. Thanks so much to everyone who contributed comments about Vista — great job!
Thanks in advance to those who will suggest us the needed stps. Thanks for this great tip. What version of Windows are you using?
Does your keyboard have two Ctrl keys? If so, does the problem happen with both? Just btw. For what ever reason, you user account does not have the right to shutdown the system when executing the shutdown command which is interesting since you can probably shut down from the Start menu. Your best work around is to set run the shortcut with alternate credentials admin account when it is launched.
To do this:. After clicking on the shortcut, you will be able to select an account with admin rights and need to enter the password. Ya I tried that, selecting an admin account, but it still does not shut down when clicking the shortcut icon nothing happens, no message appears. The administrator should appear in the welcome menu, and usually they're not password protected. Get in and change your account to an admin account.
Type in. In vista it is possible to run the shortcut as administrator by right clicking the shortcut and choosing run as administrator. Microsoft has a hotfix for this but it only will work on SP1. Most have already updated to SP3 so when you try to load the hotfiz you get an error msg that tell you it will not load because the update is older than the hotfix.

It you want the command to execute, use the -t flag, which lets you set the time lapse in seconds. The examples below use a 1-second delay. Unfortunately — especially on Windows XP — this option only shuts down Windows. It does not shut down your computer, at least on most hardware.
For more information on the tool, see here. After you place this utility in the root folder of C:, the commands for a shutdown, restart, or hibernate respectively , each without a time delay, would be shutdown -u -t 0 for shutdown, shutdown -r -t 0 for restart, and shutdown -h -t 0 for hibernate.
The native commandline tool tsshutdn.
